voice quality measurement

lingWAVES Vospector

lingWAVES Vospector is an optimal addition to voice field measurement. While voice dynamics and range are measured with voice field measurement, Vospector analyzes the vibration behavior of the vocal folds. In doing so, the pitch (basic frequency, standard deviation, minimum, maximum), the jitter, the shimmer and the GNE (Glottal to Noise Excitation Ratio, noise component of the voice) are determined.

The fast, reliable and objective voice analysis

The main objective parameters of the Vospector analysis are very much related to audibly perceived voice characteristics – roughness (irregularity), breathiness (hissing) and hoarseness (overall degree).

Based on RBH

The individual measurements are summarized to provide information on irregularity, noise and the overall degree of disturbance of the vocal fold function, which can also be seen as objective indicators of roughness, breathyness and hoarseness of the voice.

Studies have clearly shown that acoustic measurements such as jitter and shimmer are not specific for pathological vocal characteristics such as roughness, breathiness and hoarseness and are therefore of little use in clinical application. Therefore, the Vospector measurements irregularity and noise (GNE) were developed.

The lingWAVES Vospector shows voice function measurements at a glance. On the left, fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer and GNE of a current recording can be seen, in the middle the values of a comparative recording. On the right, a comparison of irregularity, noise and overall degree (based on roughness, breathiness and hoarseness) is summarized.

Further information about Vospector

Here you will find more information and frequently asked questions about our Vospector module. We would also be happy to advise you in person.
All measurements and analyses are displayed clearly and in color in a window. The displays are marked with standard values of patients with abnormalities, and the color scheme immediately provides an overview of whether the recording shows normal or pathological vocal parameters. A Vospector measurement is quickly performed. After calling up the module (via the patient manager), a vowel [a:] held for about 2-3 seconds is recorded and marked. The results are available within 1-2 seconds.
The lingWAVES Vospector module offers the possibility of an objective representation of voice changes. To do this, a previously performed and stored Vospector measurement is loaded and displayed for comparison with the currently displayed measurement. This way, even slight voice changes can be displayed and verified objectively.
As with all lingWAVES modules, recordings and measurements can be conveniently stored via the patient manager. You can print out measurements and comparisons for filing; additional information (patient, institute, etc.) is also printed.
lingWAVES Vospector at a glance:

  • Fundamental frequency measurement, pitch with min-max display and standard deviation
  • Jitter, shimmer, GNE (glottal-to-noise excitation ratio, noise component of the voice)
  • Correlative measurement values: irregularity, noise component, overall degree of voice disorder for roughness, breathiness and hoarseness
  • Option to compare with another recording
  • Convenient printing of results
