OUR SOFTWARE

lingWAVES

lingWAVES is the modern standard for the digital clinical-professional visualisation of voice and speech, biofeedback and documentation for specialists in the fields of phoniatrics, ENT and voice and speech therapy worldwide. A combination of traditional and new methods are available in modular and easy-to-use systems.

Objective representation of voice and speech

Our systems consist of numerous modules that are managed in a powerful software with a patient manager. The patient manager allows a patient-oriented presentation of progress and comparability of sessions. The modular nature of the system is the basis for all lingWAVES sets, which are perfectly tailored to customers and work areas. Each system set can be easily extended with other modules as required. lingWAVES software is certified in accordance with the Medical Devices Act and offers standardized work for and with voice and speech patients. Two versions with different focuses are available.

Recording
With the lingWAVES Recorder, voice recordings of patients can be created, edited and evaluated in high quality. The programme, which runs on a standard PC, is started and a new patient is created using the patient manager or an existing patient entry is selected. At this point, you can already see which images were taken when and with which background. With a simple mouse click, a new recording can be created for the patient or an existing one can be called up. In this way, several images of a patient can also be loaded for comparison.
High quality patient voice recording.
lingWAVES supports comparisons of recordings before and after therapy. This makes it possible to visualise the improvement in voice and speech during therapy and can be particularly helpful for motivation.

The VOSPECTOR is the fastest and most reliable way to objectively visualise the voice. In addition to pitch (fundamental frequency, standard deviation, minimum, maximum), jitter, shimmer and GNE (Glottal to Noise Excitation Ratio), roughness (irregularity), breathiness (noise) and hoarseness (overall degree) are also determined, which you can use to draw conclusions about the vibration behaviour of the vocal folds.

The lingWAVES VOSPECTOR shows voice function measurements at a glance. The fundamental frequency, jitter, shimmer and GNE of a current recording are shown on the left and the values of a comparison recording in the centre. On the right, a comparison of irregularity, noise and overall degree (similarity to roughness, breathiness and hoarseness) is summarised.

Today, the voice range profile or phonetogram is the most widely used module for clinical voice sessions worldwide.

A healthy voice can normally be used for 6-8 hours a day. However, if signs of voice fatigue appear before this, a voice disorder is present. Since it is not possible under clinical conditions to accompany a patient in their everyday life for several hours, a vocal loading test is used that simulates real voice stress in a shorter period of time.

Under varying stress levels, voice quality, volume and frequency can be assessed by the user in real time.
Application profiles: teaching, theatre and acting, singers, speaking professions

A spectrogram can be used to analyze the fine structure of a patient’s voice. Comparable to the light refraction function of a prism, the sound signal is broken down into its component frequencies. The spectrographic representation contains information about characteristic voice characteristics, such as the vocal performance range, the fundamental frequency (pitch), the formant structures of the vocal sounds ([a], [e], [i], [o], [u]) and the noise component in the voice signal.

Here are the formant structures of the vocal sounds ([a], [e], [i], [o], [u]) and the noise component in the voice signal.

lingWAVES offers various ways to objectively represent the voice. These include different functions depending on the system. Generally, these functions are classified into 2 types: short-term and long-term.
Short-term: e.g. FFT, LPC, LTAS, AMDF, autocorrelation, cepstrum
Long-term: e.g. Energy, Spectrogram, Frequency, Jitter, Shimmer

In 4 simple steps, the user can record voice data and supplement it with individual measurements in a 5th step. Among other things, the phonation time, average speaking pitch and DSI can be determined.

The Voice Disorder Index (VDI) has been established in Europe as a reliable tool for describing voice-related quality of life. The sole purpose of the VDI is to provide some preliminary information on the severity of the voice problem in relation to the most common activities of daily living.

The VDI was developed by Prof. Nawka. It is based on 12 questions.
Visual-acoustic voice-speech diagnostics.
With the lingWAVES video module, it is now possible for the first time to evaluate video recordings both visually and acoustically. Video recordings can be recorded with connected video cameras or existing recordings can be imported. lingWAVES opens and processes various video formats. It is also possible, for example, to import and evaluate video recordings made with an iPad. Therapeutic sessions can be easily recorded on the move and then examined in detail in lingWAVES. The real-time preview function also allows the use as a speaking mirror with simultaneous recording function.
In combination with an endoscopic or video stroboscopic recording in the ENT and phoniatric area, extended diagnostics of vocal cord recordings are possible. A video stroboscopic recording can be imported into lingWAVES. The audio track of the video is read out and is available for a variety of acoustic examinations, e.g. for spectrography of the voice signal.

The lingWAVES GHD allows objective statements to be made about the quality of a patient’s voice in relation to the amount of noise in the voice and the regular vibration behavior of the vocal folds, both for individual vowels and generally for the average realization of all vowels. This makes it possible to monitor the course of therapy or treatment. The GHD is now considered to be the most objective approximation to the subjectively determined RBH index.

The lingWAVES MSDA (Motor Speech Disorder Assessment) module is a modern, objective, easy-to-use and time-saving dysarthria-apraxia screening procedure that was developed for daily use to assess speech disorders. lingWAVES MSDA is an objective test procedure for assessing verbal diadochokinesia (DDK). In the test procedure, the patient repeats a word as quickly as possible during a speech exhalation, with the articulation being as clear as possible. The word (e.g. “butter biscuit”) contains sounds with a front-middle-back articulation location.
After recording and marking the test area, comprehensive evaluations are available within seconds. In addition to the diadochokinetic rate/syllable rate, information about speech fluency and speech energy (control of exhalation) is available. Syllables are differentiated with regard to the articulation location.

TheraVox is an extraordinary and lovingly designed PC tool that visualizes voice and speech characteristics such as voicing/voice use, volume, articulation/coarticulation and prosody in real time. Patients receive visual biofeedback on qualitative and quantitative characteristics of their voice/speech as a key contribution to self-perception and motivation in therapy.

Electroglottography is the direct and non-invasive measurement of vocal fold movement. This allows phonation to be performed directly without being restricted by measuring devices.

With the nasality module, nasalance can be displayed as biofeedback or in a trend diagram.
