Nasality is a module for professional users. It provides feedback on the presence of nasality in speech production.
Nasality determines the nasal balance. This is the degree of velopharyngeal opening during voiced speech. It is defined as the ratio of the acoustic energy at the nasal openings (nostrils) to the energy at the mouth.

lingWAVES NAS-Module

The lingWAVES NAS module fits seamlessly into the modular system of the lingWAVES basic software. It can be added as an upgrade to existing lingWAVES systems (e.g. lingWAVES Stimmfeld , lingWAVES Voice Diagnostic Center (VDC)) or purchased as a new system, which can also be expanded with other modules. Use a standardized and uncomplicated software interface for your work on the PC for various clinical voice analyses.

The patient’s nasal balance values can be displayed in real time in a colored bar chart. A sagittal head view with a clear and intuitive display of velopharyngeal activity during speech function is used for various biofeedback exercises.

With oral sounds, the posterior, soft part of the palate (the velum) lies against the back wall of the pharynx and thus closes the nasal cavity. Examples of oral sounds are [a] or [e].

A nasal is a consonant named after its manner of articulation. They are usually voiced. Examples are [m] or [n].

The patient's speech can be recorded here. The recordings can be, for example, syllable/word repetitions, text passages, SNAP test for children or other internationally used standardized speech data. The application automatically displays an immediate, easily interpretable and objective nasal balance value for the recording. The progress of the therapy is reflected in the trend area.
